9th International Music Festival
17 concerts with 120 Greek and foreign distinguished performers. The 9thAegina International Music Festival will be a special summer event. The 9th Aegina International Music Festival will be held from Friday, the 8th, to Saturday, the 30th of August 2014 with Dora Bakopoulos, as the Artistic Director and the substantial support of the Association of Friends of Aegina International Music Festival. The International Music Festival of Aegina, still maintains, in 2014 its initial quality and the willingness to offer to its audience. The Festival supports Greek artists and forges new friends inaugurating its cooperation with the Piraeus and Saronic Islands International Music Festival "Sinfonia", which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, sponsored by the NSRF and its artistic director, Nikos Haliasas. At the same time, it keeps a low price tickets policy for everyone and it is again a delightful summer destination for music lovers, in Aegina, with its many important monuments, the natural beauty and proximity to Athens.
Introducing the 9th Music Festival of Aegina Dora Bakopoulou notes "I think it's time to honor this untamed black beast, the piano, which has made so many people dedicate to it. The musical instrument that has played a starring role in my life and has offered me a long inner journey from which I learned a lot. We honor this charming instrument with many pianists whom I particularly appreciate, of different ages and different ethnicities with a focus on young people who are the majority. Each guest pianist is able to unfold his/her art, whether playing solo or in collaboration with other musicians at his own choice. Moreover, this year our program includes, as always, artistic and ethnic evenings of singing ".
Thus, the program of the 9th Aegina International Music Festival consists of 17 separate musical events involving 120 distinguished Greek and foreign performers (Denmark, Belgium, Armenia, Argentina, Italy). In each, almost of these nights, dominate some of the finest works of international classical repertoire for piano. It includes concerts with chamber music, works for two pianos and opera nights interpreted by soloists, quartets and opera singers.
Additionally, a large concert is included in the program with the soulful voice of Dimitra Galani who will present “in a different way” all her songs, that we already know and the ones she loves, as well as songs of the her new album with lyrics by Paraskevas Karasoulos. In addition, an evening with Greek traditional and ethnic music and songs with Miltos Logiadis, Eugenia Karlafti (piano), Chris Zerbinos (accordion), Sabina Yannatou (voice) and another evening dedicated to Manos Hadjidakis with Tassis Christoyannopoulos singing and Dora Bakopoulos at the piano, will both take place.
The 9th International Music Festival of Aegina, which opens its doors with a Chamber Music Concert with Lily Maisky on the piano [Belgium] and Hrachya Avanesyan playing the violin [Armenia], will also be hosting, among others, the great musicians from Royal Danish Orchestra (Royal Orchestra Denmark), led by the internationally renowned violinist Lars Bjoernkjaer, concertmaster of the orchestra. It will be concluded with the Athens State Orchestra with Oliver Weder, as conductor and the famous Italian Gabrielle Baldocci, as soloist, both performing in the fourth piano Concerto of Beethoven.
A musical feast awaits the music lovers that visit or live at Aegina island at a festival that stretches from the beach in Avra, to the Sotiras Church at the Kapodistrian Orphanage and the Little Theatre Jason Molfesis in Pacheia Rachi.
