The Ancient Olive Grove

The ancient olive grove, or eleonas, is located south of Pachia Rachi, just below Sfyriktres. It is known as such because of the great number of olive trees that are many hundreds of years old. Their bark alone has been carbon-dated by the Demokritos National Centre for Scientific Research to be more than 400 years old. A few old chapels - Agia Kyriaki, Agia Triada and Agios Georgios - are scattered among the olive trees, along with remains of monastic dependencies.
