‘Bare Hands’

A documentary film about Dimitri Mitropoulos

Directed and written by George Skevas

Interpreted by Lefteris Vogiatzis

Dimitri Mitropoulos conducted the orchestras without baguette, only with his bare hands. In George Skevas' documentary, Lefteris Vogiatzis 'meets' Dimitris Mitropoulos. Guided by the personal letters of the famous Greek conductor to his dear friend, Kate Katsogiannos, and using rare archival footage, the film runs through the years Mitropoulos lived in America as director of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and later the New York Philharmonic, until his tragic death at La Scala in 1960, while conducting Mahler's Third Symphony.

while bringing to light extra dimensions of his musical art.
